My Story
Prior to the start of The Caughman Firm LLC, Ms. Caughman defended governmental entities
and insurance policy holders in tort matters. Ms. Caughman has also defended governmental entities in
civil rights matters. She has experience as an Assistant Prosecutor and as an Assistant Deputy Public
Defender.
She is the present president of NAACP-Rahway Branch. Ms. Caughman has served three times
as president of the Branch. She is a life member of the NAACP. She was born in Newark, NJ and raised
in Rahway. She attended Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Newark and is a proud graduate of
Union Catholic Regional High School. She attended the American University in Washington DC and
received her BA with high honors in Political Science from Rutgers University. Ms. Caughman is a
graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Upon
graduation, she returned to New Jersey to practice law.
Ms. Caughman believes in giving back to the community. She presently advises and investigates
grievances for the NAACP. Ms. Caughman began this work right after graduating law school.
Additionally, she presently serves on the NJ State Conference of NAACP branches executive committee
and served a prior time in the 1990s.
She is a Past President of the Garden State Bar Association and a Past President of Association of
Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey. Ms. Caughman also served as a Chairperson of NJSBA-Minorities
in the Profession Section.
She is a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
